FBI Warns of Ransom Mail Scam Targeting Company Executives

Description:

The FBI has issued a warning regarding a new scam targeting corporate executives across the U.S. Criminals are mailing physical ransom letters threatening recipients with severe financial and personal consequences unless a Bitcoin payment is made. Unlike traditional cyberattacks, these letters leverage psychological intimidation to extract payments. The perpetrators claim to have compromising information on the executives and threaten to expose it unless their demands are met. Law enforcement urges recipients to avoid paying and instead report such incidents to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The advisory highlights that these threats lack credibility and are merely an evolution of extortion tactics commonly seen in cyberspace.

This scam has been confirmed to be targeting executives of both publicly and privately traded biotech companies on the east and west coast of the United States.
